Exploration of Sandford Levvy @JonnyC: After hearing rumours that Sandford Levvy might represent a novice cave, we thought we would take the opportunity to explore it. Interesting hole, but not a lot going on and whatever there is happens to be protected by very dodgy looking tat and safety gear. Would be a good cave to take some very timid beginners to though, especially if integrated with the surrounding woodland.
Leading Kyle into Goatchurch through drainpipe and into dexian extension @JonnyC: Good trip, Kyle took the lead a few times. Headed down to the water chamber and out along the drainpipe, finally along the dexian extension.
Leading Callum into the water chamber, searching for running water and free climbing out of tradesmans @JonnyC: Great trip leading Callum down to the water chamber and searching for the running water. Callum managed to free climb out of tradesman with a little scary slip at the top, but thoroughly enjoyed it.
JC learning his way around in Eastwater inc Bakers Chimney @JonnyC: A revisit to Eastwater to take the approach to the 35ft pitch at a slower speed to try to familiarise myself with the route, didn't do bad but dropped down too low for the woggle press initially. Enjoyed Baker's Chimney. Also popped along the bedding plane at the end to remind myself how strenuous it is.
JC's first proper trip into Eastwater keeping up with some of the pros, thirteen pots amazing. @JonnyC: Fairly speedy trip down into Eastwater, only my second attempt at this cave, but progressed much further this time. In and out via the woggle press, returned back up through 13 pots, got fairly bruised up, but even had time for a pint of potholer afterwards! Got fairly stressed about the bold step at the lower end, but Paul was excellent in his assistance and got me down through encouragement and f ...
Navigatonal practice in Swildon's to Tratmans @JonnyC: Popped into Swildon's to have a look up in Tratman's Temple again, manged to walk all the way to Sump 1 before I realised that I was thinking of the wrong place. Stepped up to the right on Tratman's to see all the pretties, loved it. Completed the twenty without lifeline.
Assessing swildons upper for leading possibilities @JonnyC: Concentrated on Swildon's upper series considering it's suitability for leading a group into, Short Dry Way, Long Dry Way, Old Grotto, Water Chamber, Wet Way.
Quick trip to sump one, JC & Mak did a speedy exit with DG & RM behind @JonnyC: A great trip down to Sump One, came out with Mak whilst Rich accompanied Darren, achieved the out trip in record time.
Getting our bearings in sidcot, refining the lobster pot technique. @JonnyC: A play around in sidcot to try and find our bearings, was good fun, lobster pot was easier this time.
@JonnyC: Stomp and nav up and around Llan Y Fan Fawr, and then a dash up to the ridge to stretch the lungs, reasonable weather. QHWD
