Damp trip through Boulder chokes, Gasoline alley, Travertine passage, Hall of the Mountain King, Helictite Passage. @JonnyC: Following a short hunt for parking and a diligently following AV up an innocuous looking hill we arrived at sturdy but petite gate which led into a minor battle with a padlock a short crawl later we logged into the cave and followed the main phreatic passage which is finely decorated with straws, we resisted the urge to ‘draw cameras’ at this stage as we would do so on the retur ...
@RichM: Good ride, with excellent company - 52.5km [32.6 miles], Top speed 31mph ascent & descent 935m @JonnyC: A 5 hour cycle around Mendip as a sponsored event for Kyle raising money for Sports Relief, great fun if a little tough, perfect conditions. Thanks to RM for the route planning (marked you as a participant for your route planning efforts).
@RichM: Need to come up with a progressive fitness & strength program - none the less also enjoyed the evening @JonnyC: Due to the inability of the participants to unobtainable we stayed above ground and headed to the climbing wall. It was abslutely heaving with us struggling to find ropes to use. A fun but mildly frustrating climbing session followed, mostly frustrating due to being so out of shape and suffering with the forearms and finger grip. Couldn't progress beyond A 5B, but just goes to show I need to get some more practice in.
Exploration of Browns Folly near Bath, amazing place @JonnyC: Time for a spot of underground Geocaching which performed the great service of bringing us to Brown's Folly. After parking and kitting up we headed off in a meandering route through the woods, eventually zeroing in on the 'muddy hole' entrance. We diligently followed our instructions and clambered in near the steps and headed quickly to clapham junction. Without too much delay we found our first item. We then went on the longer ra ...
@RichM: Following very heavy rain storms the cloud cleared and we started out from the bottom of Burrington Coombe on a days GCW assessment walk. Link lane, quick look at Bath [stream running will it be latter?] past Rods and Reeds then up into Rowberrow woods. Lunch stop then on up to South edge of Blackdown - very wet under foot but stunning views as far as Dunkery Beacon and the snow capped Breacons. Up to trig point [quick photo]very cold wind then dropped down to Ellick House. Cross road and up ...
@JonnyC: Short circular around the shipham quarries consolidating knowledge from a days training.
Easy trip into Swildons to wash the suits for following week @JonnyC: In desperate need of a caving suit wash before heading to a show cave on Saturday we decide a shower on the twenty should do the trick. Heading out from Wessex we head into Swildon's, wet way, water chamber, the twenty, inclined rift, up into Tratman's temple, the dry mud sump, greasy chimney, deciding against doing a short round trip we the retreated through Tratman's and headed out the short dry way. A very pleasant trip whi ...
JC lead into Sidcot, manufactured footloop tested in lobster pot, good explore @RichM: A wet night in the coombe, passing a large group who had visited Goatchurch we entered Sidcot heading to the top of the lobster pot. After a brief encounter with the lobster pot bypass which I thought better of due to lack of energy we headed down to the dig. Whilst pondering the potential both JC and I experienced rising damp in different places [perhaps wellies are coming to the end of their life?]A photo session ...
@JonnyC: Pleasant stroll accross Black Down from Burrington Combe pasing the tops of the twin brooks. Very chilly and a little icy, freezing fog kept dancing over the top.
Attempt at murlis loop led to an argument between suit and anatomy, defeated by No Picnic tube @JonnyC: A pleasant trip down Rod's into Bath on a cold an clear evening on Mendip. We headed down into Rod's with my route memory letting me down a little, but once on the trail it soon came flooding back. Rich had a plan to see if I could squeeze through The Murlis Loop, so we ducked through the archway at the end of Rod's main chamber and soon started ascending Eyeball Aven, this was a little tough ...
