Showing 10 of 306 logs from Sat 09 Feb 2013 to Thu 30 Oct 14 for @JonnyC
A pleasant stroll around box retracing a previous route. Good fun and a good deed done @JonnyC: A little bit of a last minute plan came together to pay box a re-visit, not least as I needed to return some treasure underground. After digging out some old coordinates and deciphered text passages and a RV with a helpful Inkpen in a car park we headed toward Box. We ended up going in a slightly different entrance, but Rich's recognition soon got us on the straight and narrow. It was pleasantly surpri ...
Quick dash down to sump one and back @JonnyC: After a mammoth drive across Bristol we headed to the comfort of the Wessex. We had a pleasant trip in via short dry overtaking a novice party who kindly rigged the twenty for us. Sump one was still technically a duck. Headed out via wet way. A very pleasant trip. A few pics but most didn't come out clearly.
Swift trip down chased by a youth group, down into water chamber and drainpipe, played with under over, superman and maze before assisted handline from tradesman.
Gentle trip into Sludge pit Hole, a first visit for JC, explored a fair amount, relatively damp but +5 outside meant the walk back was bearable @JonnyC: Having posed for a photo in the entrance, the realisation that the memory card was still at home kicked in, and Jon being without camera too left us with mental pictures only. We headed in via Boulder chamber, fault passage and on to main rift, passing through some pretty reasonably sized passageway, and toward the end some pretty funky inclined ri ...
Quick dash to Sump Two to celebrate a birthday @JonnyC: Good pacey wander down the short dry, ladder left rigged by previous group, duck through into Two along to the sump, few pics at the sign, then a dash back to the surface via the wet way. Good to get out on a social trip, water not high, but fun still. @RichM: A welcome trip, good to just cave in good company with no pressure. Couldn't seem to get enough air at times, subsequently found out that the group we passed in the entrance series had the MCR gas detectors with them and there was only 18% oxygen! Photography failed - flash + water doesn't mix.
Route planning trip, working out where best to take various types of groups. @JonnyC: Good trip, goatchurch first, decided route was main entrance, slider, giants steps, bloody tight, boulder chamber, look at coffin lid, over under, superman straight up through the slot, along the bedding plane up into the dining chamber, high into the terrace, lower maze passages, assisted handline from undisputable anchor on the tradesmans. Sidcot second, straight down through (names unknown other than tie press) ...
A weekend camp for SJA Badgers & Cadets @RichM: A successful weekend camp for 16 Badgers and 12 cadets. Good teamwork, good weather young people very happy. RM principle warrant, JC second warrant
An early morning run around the upper series of Swildon's. Zig Zags, Long dry way, Old Grotto, Water Chamber, Eight Foot Drop and back out the wet way. @RichM: Having agreed that a run round the upper series of Swildon's would be useful before LCMLA assessment as normal finding the time to achieve it proved difficult. Following a knotting practice earlier in the week we exchanged texts then had an indecisive phone call - ending in LETS JUST DO IT !. Entering the cave at 00:15 in true JC / RM style w ...
First outing in the Perception Dancer K2, pleasant conditions, paddled down into Bath. @JonnyC: For once this log starts before leaving the house, only so that I can extend my thanks to Rich for putting up with my little paddy and snapping me out of my moody moment! We arrived at Batheaston with a slight feeling of trepidation, mindful that this place quite often represents cold, wet, near hypothermic dissapointments from our K2 winter training programme. After retrieving 'the tank' from the roo ...
Walk on the Beacons from SWCC, path & micro nav in low vis, great terrain, damp with variable cloud base shrouding high ground @JonnyC: Out from SWCC heading out toward Fan Fraith along the dismantled tramway and then the 'motorway', quick dash into the quarries for a cache allowing the army cadets to overtake. Heading up the shoulder of Fan Gyhirych we reviewed ground conditions and decided rather than breaking path to the East for Fan Nedd we would break West for the summit of Fan Gyhirych. Micr ...
